The Brecon Beacons is one of Wales’s three National Parks, along with the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and the Snowdonia National Park.

It’s a vast and wild terrain with miles and miles of empty mountain and moorland, covered by ever-changing cloud shadows. It’s has a unique geology and is home to a completely unique variety of flora and fauna.

This an excellent place to go walking or trekking. The landscape is stunning. You can walk through forests, see spectacular waterfalls, pass over wooded gorges or (if you dare) explore some of the deepest caves in Britain. Ystradfellte waterfall in the south is particularly beautiful and is well worth a visit.

There are some stunning waterways in the park too. Check out the very calm Monmouthshire and Brecon canal along with the many idyllic lakes that are dispersed throughout the valleys.

There are numerous towns and villages throughout the area; each with their own unique character, history and traditions, but at the same time, all very Welsh.

Towns worth visiting include; Brecon, with its massive cathedral that completely dominates the town and Hay-on Wye - a town so filled with new and second hand bookshops that it contains almost every title ever written!

There are a number of ancient ruined castles too: Trecastle, Bronllys Tretower and Morlais, along with the even older remains of the rings of the standing stones which are woven into the landscape. They remind us of the influence the Celts have had on this land of water, mountains, fields and forests.

The Brecon Beacons is a superb all year round holiday destination, a great place for familys, and one of the best places to go to if you want to really experience Welsh culture and of course see their fantastic countryside.
