This is an area with truly magnificent scenery and a wealth of historic treasures. It’s home to the world famous Tintern Abbey and the age-old castles of the Welsh borderlands.

This is where England and Wales meet. As you cross over from England you’ll see the sign 'Croeso i Gymru' which means 'Welcome to Wales'.

The major historic towns in the area are Chepstow, Monmouth, Abergavenny, Usk and Caldicot. They all have both a mixture of English and Welsh influence.

Nowadays, this is a very quiet and peaceful place. But for centuries the sounds of border warfare echoed in the skies as the English and Welsh lords fought hard to control their territory. The legacy of this ongoing conflict was the creation of hundreds of castles, more castles per square mile than probably anywhere else in Britain.

These unique and stunning landscapes have created endless opportunities for outdoor sports. You can do almost anything here: cycling, fishing, walking, canal-cruising, golf, canoeing and even gliding.
