Cardigan is an attractive and picturesque Welsh market town on the Pembrokeshire Peninsula. Its narrow winding streets and traditional shops with streets selling all kinds of Welsh crafts and foods, the Georgian and Victorian buildings with their own unique character, make this the perfect place to visit and spend a few hours or more.

Also not to be missed is Cardigan Bay, Cardigan Castle and the Cambrian Mountains.

Cardigan Bay is an area of outstanding natural beauty. Parts of the bay have become Conservation areas; protected because of the abundance of local wildlife that live here. You can see stunning variety including; bottlenose dolphins, porpoises and grey seals very close to the shore.

The bay stretches for an impressive 40 miles around some of the most sparsely populated and isolated areas in the UK. This spectacular coastline, with its dramatic cliffs and intriguing caves is home to a wide variety of wildlife and birds.

Cardigan Castle is an incredibly popular building, with both locals and visitors alike. Built by the Normans many years ago, it’s now, unfortunately in a ruined state. You can still see the keep and the castle towers, but over the years the castles condition has deteriorated rapidly.

The castle is not open to the public and until recently remained private property. Thankfully though, due to a well-organized campaign, the castle is now in public hands and awaits restoration.

The Cambrian mountain range fluctuates between 1500 and 2000 feet in altitude. It’s truly stunning; an area of outstanding natural beauty with many rivers, streams, waterfalls and impressive valleys. It looks like something out of a postcard.

There are many small idyllic Welsh villages and farms scattered throughout the area. You can still see the evidence of abandoned settlements and mining at various locations.
