The Welsh Valleys are located right in the heart of South Wales. They’re home to the 2,000-ft Mynydd Blaenrhondda (Blaenrhondda mountain) and the Rhondda valley, the most famous in South Wales.

The Valleys are a great tract of upland, cut through by deep, high-sided valleys. In and around the valleys you’ll find some of the best walking country in Britain.

Between Pontypool in the east and Neath in the west there are over 12 intertwined valleys with a wide variety of landscape and terrain, offereing endless walking and trekking possibilities. Most of the roads and railways can be found on the valley bottoms, while most of the best walking trails can be found on the upland ridges.

Some of the best places to go walking in the Valleys include: the Rhondda Valley (Rhondda Fawr and Rhondda Fach); the Lwyd Valley; Rhymney and Sirhowy Valley Country Park (1,000 acres of meadows, woods, walking and cycling paths); Taff Valley; Cynon Valley; Ogwr and Garw Valley (with a ridge of hills that reach up to 530m).
